Reading EmphasisIndividual Reading Classes for Grades 1st through 3rd At Our Savior Lutheran School we recognize the need to build the strongest foundation possible in the area of reading. As a result, we have developed a reading program for grades 1st through 3rd. Using curriculum common in some of the city’s best public schools, children in grades 1st-3rd visit the “Reading Room” daily to receive grade level instruction in Reading Comprehension, Spelling Grammar and Creative Writing. The OSL Reading Lab Parents with children in need of extra strengthening and reinforcement in reading have the opportunity to have their child attend the Reading Lab during the week for further reading skill development Religion Classes In addition to chapel time for all grades once a week, Religion is a weekly core subject for all grade levels. Through age appropriate activities, music, and class projects, students not only acquire Bible knowledge, but come to understand that there is a God who loves them; is there for them, and wants to have a relationship with them. |
Religion ClassChristianity is not just a class at OSLS, it is the foundation of our philosophy in every class. We teach our students that God loves them so much that He gave His Son in order to bring them to Himself. Believing that, we also want to equip our students to love God, and to show their love for Him by serving the world He created, their country; at their work, and in their families. A Lutheran school is about equipping for service in God’s world, and this involves all subject areas. Additionally, we worship together at chapel every week, pray in class, and have religion classes specific to each grade. This is a core subject at OSLS. Through age-appropriate reading, activities, music, and class projects, students not only acquire Bible knowledge, but come to understand that there is a God who is for them, who wants to have a relationship with them, and who has called them to love others. Our staff endeavors to make religion class the most exciting part of our students’ week. |
