Our Saviour Lutheran Church

What to Expect Sunday Morning

General Atmosphere

Our worship service and other activities are pretty easy going, come-as-you-are events. Our desire is that you will feel comfortable and welcomed in every way. We don’t think this detracts from the sense of God’s presence and holiness. As long as you're comfortable, after the service we may invite you to fill out a guest card and give it to the Pastor and introduce yourself. Pastor Neil will be the guy wearing a robe shaking hands by the back door! He’s easy to recognize.

Sunday Worship

We offer one worship service at 9:30 a.m. It goes about 90 minutes. The service style is an ancient-future approach, which may include a drama, a puppet show near the beginning for the children, as well as inspiring music. The Bible is always taught and applied to our lives, and Holy Communion is celebrated liturgically according to the ancient tradition of the Christian Church. After the service we have coffee and refreshments.

Sunday School for Kids

At first, children and adults are all together for singing and the Bible puppet show at the beginning of worship. Then the children from ages 4 years through 7th grade head down stairs. They continue to learn God’s Word in lively ways that will engage them. Led by our excellent adult volunteers, they do a craft, talk about the Bible story, act it out, have a prayer time, and sing. Parents are welcome to come with their child. Then the children rejoin their parents upstairs again before the end of service to come to Holy Communion.

Am I expected to participate in the offering and Communion?

The offering is for those who are part of the Our Saviour family. Instead of wanting you to give something, we want you to get something from your time at worship. And that is a feeling of acceptance at our church and a closer glimpse of God.

Holy Communion is for those in our church body who believe as we do in this Sacrament of the Altar. We believe it is the true body and blood of Jesus Christ, in, with, and under the bread and the wine, given for the forgiveness of our sins. Before partaking in this meal we ask that you speak to the Pastor. He’s always available after worship by the door (see above).

If it’s been a long time since you’ve been to church, Our Saviour has you in mind! There’s already enough you have to think about when you’re visiting a church for the first time. We hope that getting some of this “stuff” out of the way not only encourages you to join us for church, but also helps you to connect with the hope and encouragement that God has for you.
