About Us
Something is going on at Our Saviour. We don’t feel more than 80 years old (which we are as a congregation), we feel new: new friendships, new life in Christ, a lot of us new to Queens, meeting in an old building (it has its charms) and trying to live out a very ancient faith, but in fresh ways.
Our logo says something about us. A group of people joyfully gathered around the Cross, and each person is a different color. Meaning, we are ethnically a very diverse congregation and we really like that. We are singles, we are couples, we are little kids, we are old, but in Christ we’re all being renewed.
We are Mets fans, we are Yankees fans. We’ve never had a Red Sox fan, but who knows?
We know that life is hectic and people seem increasingly disconnected from each other and from God. It takes a toll. We experience the same pressures. But at Our Saviour we have found that Christ and His Church are providing us with a different experience. Even though we’re all so different from each other, we’re connected. So our mission statement has become: “Loving disconnected people into community in Christ.” It’s not exactly poetry, but it’s our best summary so far as to what we’re about.
Our Denomination
There is only one Church in New York City, and that is Christ’s Church. Actually, there is only one Church in the whole world. We really believe that. Within that one Church our denomination is a confessing, teaching and mission movement called the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod. It’s a big church body with a big web site; you can check it out.
